The basic function of current sensors is providing continuous quality power in order to prevent problems.
The sensor reacts to changes in input supply or in monitored current. Over current sensors protect from ground fault, mechanical jamming or other overload conditions. Relay output can reduce power to slow down a process and allow action to recover after time delay. Under current sensors sense lack of power, shut down a process and notify via warning signal, or allow restart after current is restored.

Industrial dryers, large or small, require the ventilation system to be working properly. If the fans do not come on within 5 seconds when the dryers operate, the Peltec 351 sends a signal to the main control panel to shut the dryers off and flash a warning light.

Sterilizing medical instruments

Systems using ultraviolet light for sterilization of hospital rooms, medical devices and surgical tools require continuous power for expected performance. If the UV light goes out during operation, the Airotronics CS senses the lack of power and shuts the unit down. At the same time, it turns on a warning light and audible alarm.

Prevent injuries with safety relays

Even Safe Design doesn’t eliminate all hazards, so technical safeguarding is needed. The goal of the Safety Chain is to prevent persons from coming into contact with hazards, or to reduce hazards to a safe state before a person can come into contact with them.

Typical Hazards include shearing, cutting, catching, crushing and other impact injuries, as well as electrocution, burns, and exposure to dangerous substances.
Risk Assessment sensors in industrial applications monitor machine limits such as Speed, Load and Temperature. Performance outside of proscribed settings or limits activates the Safety Chain.
The Safety Chain consists of Input>Logic>Output components, in other words, Safeguard > Safety Relay > Contactor, to cut power or safely power down in a response to a given activity, malfunction or change.

Safety Circuits
Sensor input Categories B, 1, 2: Single-channel actuation using 1 switching element.
Category 2 circuits detect faults by periodic testing at suitable intervals. The safety function can be lost between the periodic tests.

Sensor input Category 3: Two-channel actuation without cross monitoring, using 2 switching elements.
Category 3 circuits ensure the safety function, in the presence of a single fault, for example by employing two (redundant) channels. Loss of the safety function can occur in the case of an accumulation of faults.

Sensor input Category 4: Two-channel actuation with cross monitoring, using 2 switching elements.
Category 4 circuits ensure that the safety function is always available even in the case of one or more faults, usually by employing both input and output redundancy, together with a feedback loop for continuous monitoring of the outputs.

Current Sensors in woodworking machines run vacuum fans to clear sawdust and debris

For clean finishing, accurate work and safer surfaces, woodworking equipment and factory installations use Airotronics Current Sensors. When the CS senses current to power on a cutting, joining, planing or finishing machine, the relay output turns on an integrated vacuum and fan system.

Shavings, chips and sawdust are cleared away as the work is done. In commercial applications, the Current Sensor is built into the control panel for cutting tools, saws, routers and more.
An on-board LED indicates sensed current through the toroid. When the current exceeds 1Amp, the relay turns on the fan, with a 1.5hp motor powered by 120VAC line voltage.

Scissor lift safety with Airotronics Current Sensor

Using a lift for building, cleaning or painting makes the job a breeze…unless there is a problem. To keep a mistake from becoming a disaster, manufacturers use Airotronics High Current Sensors to prevent unwanted or unexpected movement – like tipping and crushing! If the intended activity of the lift is somehow blocked, the HCS will detect increased amperage indicating a fault and shut ’er down.
This current sensor is completely self-powered, with solid state DC switching to interface with a Programmable Logic Control (PLC) or control relays. From job site to maintenance, if you’re running scissor lifts, Airotronics HCS can save the day.

Airotronics HCS is a high-range current sensor with sense capabilities from 3 amps to 60 amps AC. Lower range may be achieved by additional passes of the monitored conductor through the sensor. In addition to 4 standard ranges, custom sensing range is available on request. HCS is completely self-powered and delivers solid state switching to interface with a PLC or control relays. The set point is either factory fixed or adjustable. This sensor accommodates load input voltages from 3V–230V, AC or DC, 1amp max.

Repeat cycle timer fights GPS freeze-up

The last thing any traveler needs is a GPS freeze, especially in the frozen north. Whether driving an 18-wheeler or powering through in a snow machine, intrepid drivers are using the Airotronics TGKAD to send an automatic reset to their nav systems.
